Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 50g sugar
  • 10g salt
  • 10g dry yeast
  • 250ml warm water
  • 250g cold unsalted butter
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and dry yeast.
  2. Gradually add warm water while mixing until a smooth dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until elastic.
  3. Shape into a ball, cover with a clean cloth, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough rises, place cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper and roll into a rectangle (20×15 cm). Chill for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Roll out the risen dough into a larger rectangle (40×30 cm), place the chilled butter in the center, and fold the dough over the butter.
  6. Roll out again to form another rectangle; fold into thirds like an envelope. Repeat this process once more and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  7. Roll out the dough one last time to a rectangle (40×30 cm) and cut into triangles. Roll each triangle tightly from the base to tip.
  8. Arrange on a lined baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and allow to rise for another hour.
  9. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Brush croissants with beaten egg and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
