  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup carrots (diced)
  • 1 cup peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp soy sauce or balsamic vinegar (instead of Worcestershire sauce)
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 large potatoes (peeled and chopped)
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Black olives (for ‘eyeballs’)
  • Ketchup or sriracha (for ‘blood’)
  • Shredded cheese (for ‘cobwebs’)

Instructions

  1. 1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. 2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté until softened.
  3. 3. Stir in ground beef or lamb, cooking until browned.
  4. 4. Add diced carrots, peas, tomato paste, beef broth, soy sauce or balsamic vinegar, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened.
  5. 5. Boil peeled and chopped potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15-20 minutes).
  6. 6. Drain potatoes and return them to the pot.
  7. 7. Add milk, butter, salt, and pepper; mash until smooth.
  8. 8. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  9. 9. Spread the meat filling evenly in a baking dish.
  10. 10. Layer mashed potatoes over the filling; create peaks with a fork for texture.
