  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 1 medium onion
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 15oz cans tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup red apple vinegar
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • sugar, to taste
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 2 slices bread
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 1.5 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp red apple vinegar
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Soak bread in milk for a few minutes, then squeeze out excess liquid.
  2. In a large bowl, combine soaked bread with ground beef, garlic, spices, parsley, eggs, and vinegar. Mix gently and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Shape the mixture into oblong meatballs.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat and brown the meatballs on all sides.
  5. Sauté onions and garlic in the same pan until translucent; add tomato sauce, bay leaf, cumin, cinnamon, salt, pepper, and apple vinegar. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Return meatballs to the sauce and simmer uncovered for another 15 minutes.
  7. Serve hot over rice or with bread.
