  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in flour, salt, and melted butter until dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Boil water with baking soda in a pot.
  4. Punch down the dough, divide into pieces, roll into ropes, and cut into bites.
  5. Boil each batch of bites for about 30 seconds before placing on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with salt, and bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  7. For the cheese sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour and milk until smooth, then add cheese and seasonings until creamy.
  8. Serve warm pretzel bites with cheese sauce.
